Our Family

Myron, Beckie and Chelsea live on a third generation family farm near Iowa City. We first were introduced to goats in 1990 when our oldest daughter, Kristin, won a dairy doeling to show in 4-H. All three daughters (Kristin, Jenna and Chelsea) enjoyed having and showing dairy goats at the county fair.

In 2004, Beckie read an article about meat goats, and suggested they would be a good addition to our farm, primarily to reduce the raging multiflora rose problem in our pasture. We researched the industry, and decided to give it a try. An initial purchase of 10 fullblood does and a buck soon led to another 10 head of percentage does, and has grown to over 75 does currently.

Myron and Beckie have a small cow calf herd, sheep flock and custom feed hogs. This is in addition to the rabbits, chickens and ducks Chelsea had for 4-H. They also farm 700 acres of rowcrop. Myron is very involved in the goat industry in Iowa, as Treasurer and board member of the Iowa Meat Goat Association and a founding member of the Iowa Tall Corn Meat Goat Wether Association.

Structure is the most important feature in our goats.

If goats are not sound, they will not make you money. Heavy bone, deep, wide chests, a straight top and good feet and legs is what we strive for. We also pay close attention to herd health.

Regular health checks are made using FAMACHA (a test to determine worm pressure) and visual inspections help to maintain a healthy herd.

If you are looking for good, solid goats for your herd, our goats will hit the ground running, and help you make money in the growing meat goat industry.
